AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD AT HIGH PRAIRIE ARTS & SCIENCE COMPLEX. 1810 Schafer Street, Bismarck, ND.

All interested performers must prepare a monologue of less than one minute, and a song in the folk, Bluegrass, or Broadway style. A Bluetooth speaker will be available. Sides will be provided at the audition.

A separate audition will be held on Tuesday, March 10 at 7 pm, only for dancers. If you wish to be considered for ensemble and dancer roles, you must attend both auditions.

If required, acting/vocal callbacks will be held on Wednesday, March 11. If auditionees are requested for callbacks, they must prepare a piece from the show (music will be posted soon).

All members of the cast must be strong singers and actors. All members of the cast will act as the vocal ensemble. The entire cast will be on stage for the entirety of the show and will serve as the stage crew for set changes. There are three dance set pieces that will be performed by dedicated dancers. Members of the cast/ensemble should be comfortable with movement, but will not be required to dance.

Making God Laugh is a family comedy that takes place in four scenes, each ten years apart, set at various holidays. Starting in 1980, the newly “launched” kids – a priest, an aspiring actress, and a former star football player – all return home, where we learn of their plans and dreams as they embark on their adult lives.

The “empty nest” parents contend with their own changes too, as old family rituals and dubious recipes are trotted out and ancient tensions flare up. Over the course of thirty years’ worth of celebrations – Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Eve and Easter – we see how, despite what we may have in mind, we often arrive at unexpected destinations.
